0.9.0417: Need Some Privacy?

Posted by Catalyst on April 17th, 2010 at 6:24 am in Technology

Alaska and Ketchikan

Here's a nice update for everyone! Updates will start including more tools/features for Admins/Mods, and I'll try to keep that information separated. Here's an overview of the new stuff

---------------------

You can now turn invisible! (Remember from KU 1?) When you are invisible, you will not be seen on the Users Online box. However, due to how this feature is coded you will still appear on the "users online in the past hour / 24 hours" on the statistics page. I didn't really think that through...

Inbox: There was a bug that made it so you couldn't click the delete button while in a message

Inbox: The select all button no longer shows up when reading a message

About Me: Forms change faster

PRIVACY SETTINGS. In the about me section you will be able to toggle what users see and don't see in your profile. The private mode feature has been moved in there too. The toggles will appear/disappear when Private mode is toggled. Click here to see the Privacy page.

Bug Fix: You can no longer see icons for edit/delete favorited content in your profile

Bug Fix: You no longer get a random number shown when you hover over a chat message. (Tip: Hovering over messages on the chat panel will show the time they were posted)

Chat: Messages are now greyed out after two minutes. This will give an easy glance at what messages are new/old.

News articles are now shown on the location tabs

Locations and Categories now have their own RSS feeds! Ketchikan RSS and Religion RSS for example.

Comment character count should now be more accurate on the server-side (linebreaks were being counted as 1 by the javascript, 2 by the php.) HTML and BBCODE were throwing it off too. Please report if you notice inaccuracies

Article views are now tracked. Only you can (currently?) see the views on your article. You cannot add views on your own article by refreshing. Only views from other users will be counted. To make up for how database intensive this will be, I've removed the tracking of how many views your shouts get (this feature was never actually SEEN by you yet anyways)

Edit Profile button is no longer the male symbol. This originally changed depending on your gender, but that code got ruined in later builds.. I've just made it a little person with a pencil..

Whole home page (panels, header, content list) loading is smoother because icon locations are held in place while loading now.

Post comment box is a bit bigger (still can't get the resizing JS to work again. Works by default in Chrome)

You can once again show your birth year in your profile. This is disabled by default, and can be enabled in your Privacy settings.

About Me: The birthday select calendar now shows 70 selectable years instead of 10.

There is now a "Today's birthdays" section on the content panel/page. It will show the name of the user, and if they have their age displayed (see Privacy settings), it will show how old they now are. Since this is one you can't really test too easily, here's a faked screenshot.

--------------------------

ADMINS / MODS

You can no longer ban each other ;)

The warning system has been finished! An admin or moderator can go to a user's profile and click the "warn user" button. From there you can either view that user's current warnings or add a new one. A "recent warnings" section has been added to the Control Panel. All warns/bans will be tracked.

Staff can now delete any article they are viewing from the toolbar

--------------------------

From here on out I'd say I've got most of the features pretty much planned and finished. The rest of the stuff on my Roadmap mainly consists of finalizing some features and adding extra security in places.

Enjoy!
